Assignment 1

A little bit about my first grade class!
I am at Eagle View Elementary School located in Pequot Lakes MN (about 20 min) from Brainerd.
It is a fairly small town, a tight, affluent community. The students families are mostly middle class to upper middle class. The community is very open and supportive of the school. I fell that they community is behind the school 100% There is very little diversity in the school from religion to ethnicity.
My classroom has 20 students we have 14 boys and 6 girls! We just found out we are getting a new student. He will be joining us on Monday. All of the students in my class are Caucasian. Eagle View is working on setting up a program for gifted students. Within this program research suggests that it is best for these students to all be in the same classroom. THerefore, we have the top 3 students (in all of first grade) in my class. We also have ( according to data and test scores) the lowest student in first grade. This makes for an interesting balancing act of enrichment and assistance!
The school has less funding for technology then I expected, no elmo's or smartboards. They do however have computers in each classroom and mac labs.
Some goals that I have for student teaching:
Goal One: Learn something new everyday; from my cooperating teacher, from other teachers, supervisor, or the students.
Goal Two: Work my hardest and put as much effort into student teaching as I can.
Goal Three: Branch out and meet other teachers gain resouraces and mentors.
Goal Four: Enjoy these 12 weeks of learning and growing.
